Trains, trains, and more trains ... Bryce really began to take interest in trains last Spring. Suddenly, he was singing along to Thomas the Train that he had been watching for awhile - Belted out the lyrics word for word! He must have just been memorizing it and finally decided to sing along. We were stunned! Playing the cards we had been given, we decided to change his room to a Big Boy Room with a train theme. Walmart had a Thomas the Train bed video online that we played for Bryce daily to hype up the change on the horizon. Main goal?! Getting Bryce to sleep in HIS room with Thomas and Friends! ☺ I won't bother listing my excuses as to why he ended up in our room after 15 months ... but it happened. I won't bother denying that I enjoyed the snuggles and repeatedly told myself "He's your only one - and you only get to enjoy this once!". And I have no shame admitting that I was finally tired of waking up in the middle of the night hanging off my mattress or pinned into a corner because of Bryce's crazy sleep habits. I was seeking a solution, and the Thomas bed provided it!
Ironically, I also learned during this time that Thomas the Train travels throughout the US and would be in my little hometown, Connersville, Indiana, in June! What?! The road trip plans went into action. I knew that C'Ville had old, retired trains that would make the perfect props for Bryce's photo session. Once we had the conductor outfit, the remaining challenge was to help Bryce overcome his fears of actually getting within ten feet of a train, let alone to touch it! We stopped multiple times on the trip to Indiana to help break the ice without success...With determination and a pocket full of prayer, we dressed him up and took him to the tracks. He looked SO STINKIN' CUTE!! Although hesitant at first, we helped him work through his fears. By the time we ended the session, he walked the tracks like a BOSS and rocked being a conductor!
The reason I want to share this session in a blog post ... I think it's important for parents to know that it takes alot of work with Bryce to make these kind of images. While planning was put into the outfit and location, we were also required to work with him in advance to become familiar with a big steamy train engine and his fears. Genuine fears. The kind of fear that would shut down my hopes and dreams for the wall canvas I knew I wanted for his room. BUT with dedication, patience, and a PLAN (I repeat, a PLAN), it came together seamlessly in 15-20 minutes. We would LOVE to be able to find out more about your dream pictures and begin making plans together. Just give us a call or send us a note to let us know what we can do for you!
